About Kim Passalaqua

Kim Passalaqua

Bachelor of Arts (Visual Arts)
Charles Sturt University

Originally from Broken Hill, Kim Passalaqua has been drawing inspiration from the brilliant colours of the outback throughout her lifetime. In 1986 she completed a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts at Charles Sturt University, and then a Diploma of Education at Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga. She currently works from her studio in regional NSW as well as painting outdoors during field trips to outback Australia or the beautiful local Murray River Region.

“My life experiences are often reflected in my work and can range from country to coastal or outback scenes. Sometimes the rich bold colours of Australia are shouting out to be splashed across the canvas.” Kim has exhibited in many art shows and group exhibitions as well as solo exhibitions. Particular interests include figurative work, landscape and contemporary still life, using light and colour to reflect the landscape and culture.

When I chose to paint a subject in the first place, inspiration must be so compelling that I just have to get it on canvas. The style of an artist is forever changing, developing, experimenting and morphing and I find it challenging at times trying to match my style to what I’m trying to capture at the time. At times I feel like I’m chasing something that is elusive and never seem to be able to catch it, but that is the excitement of art making, the process. The expression of mood, moments in time, colours, shapes, contrasts, subject are all individual components that need to brought together.
