The unique angle and restricted palette demonstrates Kim Passalaqua’s confidence with her medium. It has a two-way aesthetic; the artwork appears somewhat abstract but the beautiful old gums quickly come into focus. A primarily warm and natural palette adds a broad appeal, making this a very versatile artwork for all buyers. I’d enjoy this artwork in my living space, office or hallway taking advantage of the gorgeous warmth it would bring to the space.

Oscillating between abstraction and figuration, this work is full of energy as it explodes, left to right, across the page. The contrast of solidity with flatness creates an interesting sense of depth and feels resonant of the Australian landscape. The work is direct, raw, expressive and would contribute to conversation in any setting, be it an eclectic home or minimal contemporary apartment. As it is a large work, I would suggest that it would benefit from a sizable wall with a reasonable amount of breathing space.

This piece captures the spirit of nature through the organic forms created with fluid painting techniques, in which the artist has limited control, letting the medium take its course. The colours and mediums have been layered effectively and the overall feel gives the impression of an ethereal wilderness. It is appealing as it hints at textures and layers. The lovely earthy colours bring warmth to the piece.
